Toothache
Throbbing toothache – Belladonna. Heat causes pain – Pulsatilla. Cold relieves pain: Coffea. Clenching of teeth helps: Staphisagria. Teeth sensitive and painful to touch, roots exposed, worse from cold air: Plantago. Toothache during pregnancy: Sepia.
Aconite – Toothache after cold wind. Arnica – Pain with bruising. Magnesia sulphuricum – The pain shoots like lightning, worse from cold and better from heat. Silicea – swollen face and glands, the patient wants warmth. Chamomilla – Teething pain in children.
Abscesses
Belladonna – Toothache with red, swollen and throbbing gums. It is best used for an abscess in the early stages. Try 30c every half hour. If the swelling from the abscess descends to the neck, try Myristica, which works exceptionally well when a surgical incision seems necessary.
Silicea is useful if the abscess persists for a long time. If you have chronic (recurring) abscesses, then Hepar Sulph. should help in 6c potency. Merc. Sol. 6c is useful for bad breath, ulcers and salivation.
Pyrogenium may be used when there is pus but no drainage. Bryonia is indicated when there is acute inflammation or when the stitching pain is relieved by steady pressure. Pulsatilla will help if the pain is aggravated by heat and relieved by cold water.
Gum disease
Bleeding gums: Arsenicum album. Gums bleed when brushing teeth: Ferrum phosphoricum. Bleeding gums with bad breath: Merc. Sol. 6s once a day. Swollen, sore gums, whitish coating on the tongue, the patient consumes many stimulants such as coffee and tea: Nux vomica.
Swollen gums bleed easily, saliva copious: Phosphorus. Hypericum can be used on tender gums to promote healing. China is also useful in bleeding gums.
Extraction of teeth
Arnica is a brilliant remedy for pain, swelling and bleeding. Hypericum is also very helpful if there is nerve damage. Phosphorus controls bleeding. If the tooth begins to bleed, take Phosphorus 30c in tincture, moisten a cotton ball and apply to the bleeding area. Ruta graveolens – if the bone is injured. Symphytum stimulates tissue growth after dental trauma.
Mouth ulcers
Ulcers bleed easily: Nitricum acidum. Small red ulcers, worse from salt or acid: Borax 30c, every fifteen minutes. Sticky saliva and swollen tongue : Hydrastis.
Medicines for fear
Aconitum – there is mental and physical anxiety, but fear prevails. Gelsemium is indicated when the patient feels weak in the knees and is timid. He lacks energy. Aconitum and Gelsemium can be used the night before surgery for a relaxing effect. Argentum Nitricum is useful if there is a feeling of trembling, hasty action, incessant speech, and diarrhea with anxiety.
Theridion curassavicum. Every sound penetrates the teeth. Restless businesslike state of the patient (Tarentula). Vertigo and nausea are aggravated by closing the eyes, by motion and by noise. The headache is worse if one walks on the floor. Weakness, trembling and restlessness. Laughter and talkativeness.
The patient feels that the head does not belong to her, and she could take it off. Luminous vibrations before the eyes. If the patient looks at the light, there are dark vibrations and double vision. Fainting after any exertion. Sharp pains in the left side of the chest or in the left shoulder. Biting the tip of the tongue in sleep.
Nausea when closing eyes. Seasickness in nervous women. Sharp neuralgic pains over the left eye (Spigelia). Great sensitivity between the vertebrae. The patient sits sideways in a chair to avoid pressure on the back of the chair on the spine. Violent stitching from upper left chest to back (Myrtus communis and Pix liquida). Tuberculosis.
Mercurius. Jerking toothache at night. Dry lips. Cracks in the corners of the mouth. Purulent pimple on chin. Cannot separate jaws. The gums separate from the teeth. Pain in teeth after eating. Teeth become grey-black. Pain in front teeth.
Grinding and clenching teeth at night. The tongue is coated with a thick white coating, with whitish swollen gums that bleed when touched. Pain as from pricks in the tip of the tongue. Bubbles in the mouth. Ulcers and fissures in the mouth burn violently in the evening. Persistent dry mouth.
Bryonia. Toothache from a cold. Better by pressing the head hard against the pillow, or by a cold compress (Coffea).
Thuja. Teeth decay at the edge of the gums. Gums with dark red stripes. Teeth turn yellow and crumble.
Cuprum. Tonic convulsions with brain damage and inflammation of the meninges. Hidden rash in scarlet fever. Violent delirium (Belladonna). The face and lips are blue. Eyes roll from side to side. Foam in the mouth. Strong contractions of the flexor muscles. Convulsions with screams. Pinching the thumb into the palm of the hand.
The head is buried in the pillow. Convulsive contraction of the flexor muscles. Red, purple face. Teeth clenched. Foam in the mouth. The patient does not recognize others (Zincum. Stramonium). Symptoms from delayed eruption. Deep sleep after convulsions. Convulsions with screaming and gnashing of teeth.
Zincum metallicum. Convulsions and twitching in the muscles. Irritation in one side of the body causes twitching in the other. Numbness and coldness in the legs. Sensation of a belt around the abdomen. The patient stumbles with his eyes closed or in the dark. Muscle tremor. Anemia and emaciation.
Argentum nitricum. Pupils dilate a few days or hours before an epileptic seizure. Epilepsy from fright. Epilepsy during menstruation. Cramps of the pectoral muscles. The patient between attacks is very restless, turns over from one side to the other. Deep melancholy. The patient is afraid to walk the corner of the street. It seems to him that the corner of the house protrudes forward, and he is afraid to bump into it.
The patient staggers in the dark or when he closes his eyes. He feels bruised in his calves, as after a long journey. Pain in the lumbosacral region when moving from a sitting to a standing position. Pain on getting up. Better from walking.
Lachesis. Facial pain on the left. Tearing pains in eye socket. Teeth rot and crumble. Jerking pains in blue swollen gums. Periodontitis. Abscess at the root of the tooth.
Kreosotum. Toothache on the left. Teeth decay quickly. The gums are bleeding. Dark blood. Burning facial pains. The patient is irritable and prone to convulsions.
Aranea diadema. Toothache in wet weather (Mercurius). Dampness is not tolerated. Intermittent fever in cold and damp places. Chill recurs at same hour every day (Cinchona and Chininum Sulphurici). Bleeding. The defecation are watery, with much rumbling in the bowels. After sleeping, it seems that some parts of the body are swollen. On waking, arms or legs appear to be larger than normal.
Coffea. Toothache from heat. Excited and talkative. Convulsive clenching of teeth. Sharpened taste. Burning sour eructation. Constant alternation of constipation and diarrhea. Night ejaculations are replaced by impotence. Excessive sexual desire. Extreme sensibility of vulva with voluptuous desire. Beli with mucus with blood. Asthma at night. Great sensitivity to cold. Worse from excessive fun, noise, strong odors, and cold open air. Better from heat and in the evening until midnight.
Pulsatilla. Toothache relieved by vinegar. Toothache from drinking cold liquids. Frequent buzzing in the ear. Ringing in the ears, as if struck on an iron bar. Chirping in ear in the morning, like crickets. Pus flows from the left ear. Bleeding from the nose. The skin of the lips cracks. Toothache when eating. It seems that the language has become wider. White tongue and disgusting taste in the mouth, in the morning. Dryness of throat after midnight. In the morning, the taste of rotten flesh in the mouth.
Staphisagria. Milk teeth turn yellow, then blacken and decay (Antimonium crudum. Chamomilla and Coffea). Gums are sore and swollen. They bleed when touched. Inflammation of eyelids with hard styes. Eyelid cysts (Graphites). Eczema on ears with yellow crusts and bloody discharge. Skin abrasions. Warts or condylomas on stalks (Thuja). Osteomyelitis.
The teeth soon turn black. He brushes his teeth twice a day, but there are black streaks on them. Gums bleed when brushing teeth. The gums become pale. The teeth are sensitive to the slightest touch. Immediately after drinking cold drinks, tearing toothache. The tongue is coated with a whitish coating. He speaks very quietly, due to the weakness of the speech apparatus. Accumulation of saliva in the mouth. Blood saliva. Bitter taste in mouth.
Sulphur. Toothache in the open air, or from the slightest breath of wind. Toothache from cold water, evening and night. Swollen gums bleed easily. The rags look beautiful. The child wakes up screaming. The child turns around, does not sleep and takes off his clothes. Vertigo when walking in the open air. Deafness, itching and weeping in the ear. Flushes of heat in the face during the day. Lips burning, very dry and chapped.
Ignatia. Teeth ache after drinking coffee, after smoking, after dinner, in the evening and when lying down. Haste alternates with indecision. Headache relieved by lying on the painful side. Heaviness in the occiput and tendency to throw the head back on the back of the chair. Headache relieved by heat, rest and stimulants.
Worse from cold wind, motion, noise and light. The pain goes from the head to the left eye. Bites cheeks when speaking or chewing. Very sour taste in the mouth. Sensation as if a large piece of food were stuck in the throat. Sensation as if many pins were stuck in the stomach. Gastralgia from hunger, from worries and sadness.
Rhus. Toothache worse from cold and better from warmth. Pulsating toothache is instantly relieved by the application of a cold hand. Sickness from overexertion or dampness. Infantile paralysis of the spinal cord (Sulphur).
Carbo animalis. Loss of teeth, very sensitive to the slightest cold. Increased acidity with great flatulence. Copper spots on face and body. Can hardly get up during menstruation because of severe pain in the sacrum. Menses are too frequent and too long. Whites are acrid and burning. Ulceration of the cervix. Breast cancer. Worse after midnight and from cold. Better from warmth.
Nux vomica. Toothache from warm drinks and soup. Toothache from mental exertion. The teeth are loose. Ringing and hissing in the ears. Intolerable itching in the nose. Twists the mouth. Itchy pimples on upper lip. Fissure in the middle of the lower lip. Eczema on the bottom of the chin.
Swollen gums and toothache before dinner. White tongue. Can’t speak loudly. Painful blisters on the tongue. Sore throat in the morning when swallowing. Burning in esophagus, as from rancid fat. Great accumulation of saliva in the mouth during sleep. Blood saliva. Sour taste in the mouth.
Toothache in thin rickety children – Sil.; in fatty, scrofulous – Calc.
Teeth blackened and decaying – Kreos.
Hollowed teeth from decay of enamel – Tub.
Teeth quickly blackened and already falling out, decaying rapidly, sensitive to the slightest touch, aching after eating and drinking – Staph.
Teeth fall out, stagger, turn black, gums bleed; teeth begin to deteriorate in children – Merc-v.
Rapid destruction and loss; blackness, soreness, gums sore and bleed – Plan.
Teeth dirty, with hollows; bleeding gums, dental fistulas; necrosis of the jaw – Phos.
Rapid falling out, feeling of elongation in teeth – Mez.
In suppuration of the gums – Phos. Toothache – Plan.
Inflammation of the root of a broken tooth – Merc.
In severe swelling and inflammation – Apis, Merc.
The teeth are carious, there are no manifestations of inflammation or flux – Kreos.

Toothache from colds or cold drinks; cold is not taken out; pain only when eating – Calc.
Pain while eating; from drinking warm; from movement; better when lying or lying on the affected side; starts from cold; teeth seem very long; defeat mainly on the right – Bry.

In thin, irritable, emaciated, extremely excited, sleepless during eruption, and teeth often fall out immediately after eruption – Kreos.

Diarrhoea, green stools, sour smell – Calc.
Diarrhea, green, smelly – Sil.
Great soreness of the gums – Merc.
